In La Cena, from the Natural Selection collection, three chimpanzees in grey suits with white napkins tied around their necks sit in a row at a table with a white tablecloth. Each holds a knife and fork beside its plate and empty glass. The black background and landscape format underline the near-identical symmetry of the three diners.

Natural Selection is a series by Daniel Sueiras that pays tribute to Charles Darwin’s discoveries on the evolution of species while also looking at them with irony. In it, the artist revisits the classical portrait of illustrious figures to portray animals of all kinds.
